7/1/2023 0 Comments Sonance vp68rSo moving to ceiling speakers was the only choice for me. But also because the kitchen wasn't really a place where stereo imaging mattered since it was more of a background noise application. Primarily b/c I hate how limiting it can be to use Sonos due to outlet placement and my OCD about cords and shit running everywhere - especially on a counter. It was part of a build/remodel and I wanted to get rid of speakers we had sitting on the kitchen counters. My ceiling speakers are just for ambient now. I can’t wait but have to be sure I won’t have a kid knocking them over jacking around with friends. Once my kids are a bit older I’ll change one of the rooms to have primary speakers as I’ve been eyeing a pair of Focal Sopra’s. One is just a playbar and a sub and in the other it’s got 1’s for surround and a sub. I use a playbar for the workhorse role today in our two primary rooms. TL:DR the ceiling/wall speakers are a rebranded (small tweak) to the current sonance “Visual Performance” medium size speaker. We are going to be starting construction this spring on a new house and I’m 100% sure I’ll be doing the exact same setup but using new amps and likely the new sonos/sonance round ceiling speakers. That said- I’m promising you will not be disappointed if you can get over the cost. Seeing the price and size I bet they’re the a replica of the VP64r with some small integration changes to tailor to sonos. The range and depth of sound is perfect, and if you want they can bump LOUD and still maintain the same quality. The sweet spot is really between the 66s and the 64s. The sound on the 68s are VERY clearly different, they are remarkable. I have 1 sonance VP68r ($1200/pair) speaker pair, 4 pairs of VP66r (725/pair), and 1 pair of VP64r (500/pair). I have 6 pairs of sonance speakers in my house, powered by the old zp120 amps. I was very tempted to mock up the speakers and be able to form a partial impression of the Sonos+Sonance acoustic profiling but as I knew I wouldn’t keep them I felt that would be disrespectful-my assumption being that unopened products don’t have to go through a quality inspection process and be sold as refurbished. Had the Amp delivered the features I wanted with my arrangement I would’ve been eager to install the Sonance speakers. I currently have a stereo HomePod pair in this room and while it has some drawbacks my requirements for convenience and acoustic profiling are met. As I mentioned in a couple comments, convenience of never having to touch the equipment and easy switching between Apple TV/projector input and AirPlay 2 was a requirement. A big part of my frustration with the Amp was due to my not having a TV with HDMI ARC and having no interest in changing or adding a receiver. I ended up returning the order and never opened the in-wall speakers. Sorry for the delay, and for failing to follow up!
